Motorcycle Battery Tender

When I moved back up to Michigan and to a much colder winter. Brrr, it can get mighty cold when December rolls around. Prior to this I was riding my Fatboy year around and I did not need a motorcycle battery tender like I do now. Well I suppose if you only ride your bike once every couple of weeks you would want to have one to connect to just so you could add a trickle charge to your battery. But then I rode mine just about daily and still would if the ice and cold would go away.

I have never been the sharpest tool in the shed so I just jumped on the bike and rode over the the Harley Dealer to see what I needed. They had this small battery tender, trickle charger so I bought it after all it did say Harley Davidson on it. I probably knew better but then I am a Harley nut. It works just fine but since HD stands for “hundred dollars” I paid more than I had to for it. I should have done a little bit more research on the subject.

Moving back to Michigan also gave me a much smaller yard to cut so I had been using a walking mower. You know the drill get the grass cut and my exercise at the same time. That left my riding lawnmower siting all summer so that when it was time to pick up the leaves with it (raking is out of the question) the battery was not only dead it was also shot. I already told you I am not the sharpest tool, I should have put a battery tender on it and I would have added a lot of life to the battery. So this time I decided to do some searching for the trickle charger that I needed. Yes it does pay to have more than one battery tender in the house or garage depending where you store that motorcycle during the winter.

Once I started doing my research online I found that the motorcycle Battery Tender that I had bought previously was just a tad over priced mainly because of the name that was painted on it. I found one site that was loaded with a ton of different systems that would do the trick and keep my numerous batteries up to snuff. I say numerous but really only three, the Fatboy (the most important) the deep cell marine battery for the electric trolling motor (the second in importance) and the lawn tractor (takes a distant third) but they all need to have a trickle charge.

I even found one unit that would do all three at the same time. How is that for convenience! All in all, it is much less expensive to buy a decent motorcycle battery tender to trickle charge your batteries than it is to go out and buy new batteries every couple of  years.
